MCU Hosts Generics Awareness Month Celebration

In line with the nationwide observance of Generics Awareness Month, Manila Central University (MCU) in partnership with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Philippine Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, Inc. (PACOP), held a special advocacy event at the Helix Auditorium on September 10, 2025.

This year’s celebration carried the theme “Ginhawang Generics, Ramdam ng Bawat Pilipino”, echoing the continuing mission of the government and educational institutions to promote the safe, effective, and affordable use of generic medicines across the country.

The highlight of the program was the talk delivered by Mr. Lorenzo P. Javier, RPh, Pharmacist III from the Pharmaceutical Division, Department of Health, who also proudly belongs to the MCU College of Pharmacy, Batch 2019. Mr. Javier shared an in-depth overview of Republic Act No. 6675, the Generics Act of 1988, emphasizing the law’s role in ensuring that Filipinos have access to quality medicines at affordable costs. He also underscored the responsibility of healthcare professionals in educating the public and dispelling misconceptions about generics.

The event gathered students from MCU’s College of Pharmacy along with participants from various pharmacy schools in Metro Manila. It also served as a meaningful venue to inspire future pharmacists in taking an active role in the promotion and advocacy of generic medicines, a vital step toward achieving equitable healthcare for all Filipinos.

MCU is honored to have hosted this advocacy celebration, with pride that one of its very own alumni returned as a resource speaker. This reflects the University’s commitment to producing healthcare professionals who not only excel in their fields but also contribute to advancing the nation’s health and well-being.
