Manila Central University takes immense pride in being recognized as one of the founding member institutions of the Philippine Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (PACOP) during its 50th Anniversary celebration and Fellowship & Awards Night held on March 10, 2025, at The Manila Hotel.
The award was received by MCU President Dr. Renato C. Tanchoco Jr., together with the MCU College of Pharmacy Dean and faculty, signifying MCU’s enduring role in advancing pharmacy education in the country.
PACOP, established in 1974, is the premier organization of pharmacy schools in the Philippines, composed of duly recognized and accredited colleges offering pharmacy programs. It serves as a unifying body that advocates for academic excellence, curriculum development, research advancement, and ethical practice within the field of pharmacy education. Over the years, PACOP has been instrumental in shaping national policies and standards that elevate the quality of pharmaceutical education and practice in the Philippines.
MCU’s deep-rooted partnership with PACOP is reflected in the remarkable leadership of its former deans who have served as PACOP Presidents, including:
🔹 Dr. Jose L. Mencias (1975–1977)
🔹 Dr. Amelia S. De Juan (1981–1982)
🔹 Dr. Luzviminda S. Ong (1997–2000)
🔹 Dr. Maricon Y. Boie (2010–2012)
Continuing this legacy, two MCU faculty members also currently serve in key leadership roles:
🔹 Dr. Crystal Jmee G. Hernandez – PACOP Secretary
🔹 Ms. Christine Marie S. Terrado – PACOP Secretary
This golden anniversary of PACOP is not only a celebration of its rich history but also a reaffirmation of the collective commitment among pharmacy schools—including MCU—to nurture future-ready pharmacists, uphold the highest academic standards, and contribute to national and global healthcare development.
Here’s to 50 years of synergy and service—and to many more years of empowering pharmacy education! 💜💊
