Manila Central University proudly shines the Centralino Spotlight on Dr. Josephine De Leon, a dedicated nurse educator, researcher, and leader whose lifelong commitment to nursing education continues to inspire excellence in the profession.
A Strong Centralino Foundation
Dr. De Leon’s journey began at Manila Central University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1990. Her Centralino education built the foundation of her career – instilling in her the values of service, compassion, and lifelong learning.
Driven by a passion to advance nursing practice, she pursued higher education and obtained a Master’s degree in Nursing (Major in Curriculum Instruction) from Our Lady of Fatima University in 2007. Her academic journey reached new heights when she completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Supervision at Centro Escolar University (CEU) – a testament to her dedication to academic excellence and professional growth.
Shaping the Next Generation of Nurses
Currently, Dr. De Leon serves as an Associate Professor at Centro Escolar University Manila, where she teaches both in the School of Nursing and the Graduate School. Her dual role allows her to guide future nurses and educators, shaping them into competent, compassionate professionals ready to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare industry.
In June 2023, she was appointed as the Acting Head of the Research and Innovation Department at CEU, a position that underscores her leadership and expertise in the academic and research community. In this capacity, she continues to strengthen research initiatives and mentor young scholars in pursuing evidence-based practice.
Leading Research and Innovation
Dr. De Leon’s scholarly contributions span numerous research presentations and publications, both locally and internationally. Her research interests focus on Nursing Education, Patient-Centered Care, Diabetes Mellitus, and Tuberculosis Patient Care – areas that reflect her commitment to improving health outcomes through education and evidence-based interventions.
She currently leads a DOST-PCHRD–funded international research project titled “Effectiveness of Mobile Self-Management Education (M-DSME) for Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Indonesia and the Philippines.” This project bridges technology and healthcare, empowering patients to take control of their health through mobile-based education and support.
A Leader, Mentor, and Advocate
Recognized for her expertise and credibility in nursing research, Dr. De Leon is frequently invited as a speaker, mentor, and collaborator in both national and international research endeavors. Her work continues to influence not only her students but also the broader nursing community, advancing standards of care and promoting the integration of research in nursing practice.
